Welcome to Gran Canaria, Canary Islands!
We stopped in Las Palmas today. This city has a population of almost 400,000 people! The harbor was beautiful and we were joined by 2 other cruise ships in port. We went on an excursion today to visit a botanical garden and a fort.

A Dragon Tree and Adam at the Jardin Botanico Canario Viera y Clavijo – the largest botanical garden in Spain. The legend of the Dragon Tree says there used to be dragons on the Canary Islands. Every place a dragon touched the ground, a tree grew. Even more interesting, it’s not really a tree! The inside is red and they used to sell that as dragon blood!

We found a Burger King and McDonald’s on the island – and yes, we stopped at McDonald’s! We got a Happy Meal, a Double Dip burger (served with dipping cheese sauce), and ate outside overlooking the harbor.
On our way back to the ship we stopped at the Dino Supermarket – Adam’s favorite! It was busy with tourists, crew members, and local shoppers. We found snacks and pop to hold us over for our 9-Sea Day stretch. Of course, Adam got some mayo to bring home!
