We arrived at Port Elizabeth, South Africa today. In contrast to Cape Town, this is an industrial, manufacturing city primarily focused on auto manufacturing. Fun fact – they export VWs to Germany (and other places of course)!!

Next stop — Addo Elephant National Park
We were most looking forward to our visit to the elephant sanctuary today and it did not disappoint. We took a bus about an hour out of town to visit Addo Elephant National Park.
Our guide told us over 100 years ago the farmers planted citrus crops. However, the elephants 🐘 loved the citrus and destroyed much of the crops. So what did the humans do? Destroyed the elephants (not sure how anyone could do that). That was not acceptable, so the compromise was to build a national park elephant sanctuary. To help keep the elephants on the land, the farmers even gave the elephants the damaged citrus! The park is over 100,000 acres and now has over 150 elephants from the original 16 it started with! There are also 🦓 zebras, warthogs, lions 🦁, and water buffalo (we saw them all)!
The park was awesome and did not disappoint in animal sightings. I took so many pictures it was hard for me to pick which ones to add – here are a few!

It was a great visit and we were exhausted when we returned to the ship! Four more days of cruising before our next stop!
